JOSH SPURLOCK ON NAVIGATING SEXUALITY AS A SINGLE CHRISTIAN

That’s a great question. Oftentimes, the message that we get around sexuality from a church context can be rather negative, and one that only focuses on ‘don’t have sex until you’re married’. While that’s a valuable message to hear from the church, but there’s a lot more to sexuality than just ‘don’t do it’. We don’t always do a great job of talking through God’s design for sexuality and making sense of our experience of sexuality.

SEX THERAPY PROVIDES A SPACE FOR SINGLES TO WORK THROUGH THEIR SEXUAL EXPERIENCE

And so, a lot of singles will engage and connect with a sex therapist to talk through their own experience of their sexuality; What’s going on with their body, sexual purity, making sense of sexual experiences that have been a part of their story, and trying to sort through that.

RECOMMENDED RESOURCES FOR SINGLES AND SEXUALITY

There are other resources that you can also engage that are designed for singles and sexuality, like Doug Rosenau’s Single and Sexually Whole. This book does a great job of talking through how to understand, think through, and have dialogue around sexuality and sexual experience as a single Christian. It’s a great resource that I would point you to. Connecting with Christian counseling to talk through your experience and how to navigate your sexuality, can also really help.
