At other practices that operate as networks of independently contracted therapists, there is no accountability. Independent contractors operate independently. Their organization does not control how they do therapy. No one really knows what the counselor says or does in session. (*required by the IRS to be treated as independent contractors)

At MyCounselor.Online, training and hours of experience are tracked by the practice leadership, by categories of therapy provided by the therapist. Rate tiers are set for each counselor by the practice leadership on a category by category basis, as the therapist meets the objective training and experience requirements for that category.

At other practices, counselors set their own rate based on either how many years they have been in practice, or they’re own subjective judgement of their skill level, regardless of how much training or experience (hours of therapy completed) they have with a specific category of therapy.

Location

At MyCounselor.Online, clients can choose to come into a counselor’s office, OR access any therapist on the team, online by video therapy, from anywhere in the world.

At other practices, clients must come into the counselors office.

Variety of Expertise

At MyCounselor.Online, you can access all of our counselors across all of our locations. This offers greater opportunity to connect with the counselor that’s right for you, not just the ones within driving distance.

At other practices, access to expertise is limited to the counselors within driving distance.

Scheduling

At MyCounselor.Online, counseling can be accessed from anywhere with internet, so travel time isn’t necessary. Our therapists are spread out across multiple times zones, so there is a greater range of scheduling flexibility.

At other practices, counselors are in a single time zone in a single physical location. Scheduling must account for travel to and from their location, and work within the practice’s regular business hours in that time zone.

Continuing Education

At MyCounselor.Online, we require and hold our therapists accountable to participate in our internal continuing education program, amounting to a minimum of 100 hours a year.

At other practices, counselors are held to state minimum standards, typically around 30 hours a year if they are compliant. Many are not because there is no accountability.
