Family Therapy at MyCounselor

Common Family Struggles

Parents and children alike face many sources of stress that cause problems in day-to-day family life. Christian family counseling will help you overcome these challenges for a happier, healthier family.

Divorce Counseling

Divorce is hardest on the kids. It’s not their fault, they didn’t make this happen, but it affects them profoundly and there is nothing they can do about it.

Sometimes divorce is preventable, sometimes it’s not. Either way the kids need help getting through it. They need a safe place to be able to talk about what they are feeling without fear of hurting either parent’s feelings or choosing sides.

We’ll be there for your kids.

Blended Families

Life is messy sometimes. At least half the families in America have kids living in homes where one or both parents are not their biological parent. Divorce, death, and adoption are just a few of the ways that stepfamilies are created. Parenting is especially challenging when you are parenting children that are not biologically yours.

We start by listening. We want to get to know your family and the challenges you face. From there we’ll work with you to break down the complex problems into understandable dynamics. Then we’ll help you formulate a strategy for overcoming the challenges – so everyone can get along.

Young Children

MCO provides individual counseling for clients ages 12 and up. We do not provide individual therapy to children under the age of 12. Individual talk therapy is not particularly effective for individuals under this age. Talk therapy requires a level of emotional and mental maturity that is usually not present for younger children.

While each child is different, some children under 12 would benefit from talk therapy while others would struggle, as a general rule we have found the most effective intervention is counseling with the parents. Counseling parents of younger children can improve managing conflict and parent-child relationships, help to navigate parenting challenges, and improve parents’ working together.

Teenagers

The teen years are tough – for everyone. No one loves your teen more than you do, but sometimes they need a voice other than their parents to help them sort through their issues.

Depression, anxiety, sexual identity questions, grief, self-harm, eating disorders, body image struggles, and thoughts about suicide are just a few of the common areas of struggle we help teens with.

When your child is struggling, it’s terrifying. You feel so helpless and like a failure. All you want to do is fix it, so they can be happy. Let us help you and your teen know how to get through this successfully.

All minors must be accompanied by a parent/guardian during the intake call. Parents/guardians are not required to be present in the counseling sessions.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the counseling fees?

Fees range from $55 to $195 depending on the level of experience of your counselor. All first-time appointments will be charged a non-refundable one-time $35 assessment and setup fee at the time of scheduling.

Advanced Practice: $165-195/session
MCO Certified: $135/session
Resident Counselors: $110/session
Scholarship (1 free session followed by 5 scholarship sessions): $55/session.

Do you offer free counseling?

With the amount of training and experience, our therapists have MyCounselor.Online isn’t free, but it can be affordable. Don’t let cost prohibit you from getting help. There is an affordable road to healing.

We have 4 Fee Tiers to choose from, starting at $55/session. Payment plans are available as low as $50/week. You may qualify for a scholarship from your church or work. We also offer 1 free session of online counseling through our Strong Families Scholarship.

Are you in-network for insurance?

MyCounselor.Online is a Christian counseling center focused on providing the highest quality care possible. As such we are unwilling to enter into any arrangement that might pressure us to compromise quality to increase insurance company profits. Thus, at present, we are not a part of any private insurance in-network panels.

That being said, outpatient psychotherapy is a covered benefit under many insurance plans and we do have a number of clients who receive out-of-network benefits for our services. Some networks, recognizing our excellence in certain specialized areas, have agreed to reimburse our clients at in-network levels even though we are not on their in-network panels. This is solely at the discretion of your insurance provider.

Can you file my insurance?

Yes. We can submit a claim for reimbursement of service fees to your insurance on your behalf for a fee* or you may submit claims to your insurance company directly. We cannot accept consignment for insurance benefits and have no control over how much your policy will cover or how covered claims will be applied based on your deductible. You are responsible for paying fully for your services at the time of your appointment.

*In an effort to hold down costs associated with providing the most effective and helpful professional clinical services possible, MCO outsources our medical billing request to an independent medical biller. The $5 fee for this service is passed along to those requesting this service.

How soon can I get in?

Appointments are available Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Also keep in mind that each counselor’s schedule is different, and availability may vary depending on how busy they are and whether they have any cancellations.

If you need to get in quick and have flexibility with which counselor you see, we may be able to schedule you with a therapist same-day if you contact us before 5 pm CT.

What’s your cancellation policy?

Cancellations must be made by 5pm CT the business day prior to your scheduled appointment by contacting reception (Monday appointments must be cancelled by 5pm CT the Friday before). You will be responsible for paying the full session fee if changes are made after that time.

Much like a doctor’s appointment or hotel reservation, this time was reserved by the counselor specifically for you. When changes are made beyond the cancellation window, you are still responsible for that reserved time since we can no longer offer it to other clients in need.

In the event of inclement weather or other circumstances that prevent you from making it to our office, your scheduled session time is available over the phone or by video. Online clients who experience an internet outage or other technical difficulties are encouraged to attend their session over the phone.

We apply the cancellation policy without favoritism and with uniformity to all clients to whom it applies.
