A Note From Jessica

My ideal client is over the age of 18, is pursuing therapy by their own choice, and is highly motivated to grow. This client persists through the uncomfortable and difficult parts of therapy and celebrates their successes along the way.

I am best suited to treat trauma and stressor-related issues, particularly those that arise through instances of domestic violence and/or sexual assault. I also have experience addressing co-parenting, grief and loss, anxiety, and depression.

As a recent grad, I am far from being a specialist in anything. However, I have invested some time learning how to treat trauma bodily, mentally/emotionally, and spiritually. I’ve utilized a range of approaches including but not limited to body-based mindfulness activities, bibliotherapy, cognitive restructuring, and psyched to address trauma. My experience seeing clients was targeted towards survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. I have provided ongoing safety planning for individuals affected by the cycle of violence and emotional/logistical support for those navigating the legal system.

I come from a bicultural family, as many people do nowadays, and as such, I have a soft spot for the identity development of multi-ethnic and/or multi-racial individuals and families.

Counselor Competency

MyCounselor has as its aim to be the gold standard in faith-based mental health. Our counselors are required to have undergraduate studies in theology, practical ministry, or psychology and have completed a graduate (master’s) degree in mental health (professional counseling, clinical social work, marriage & family therapy, etc.).

  • We only hire around 2% of applicants
  • Require at least a Master’s Degree in Mental Health
  • 2-Year Post-Graduate Residency in Neuroscience Informed Christian Counseling® (NICC)
  • 400+ hours of Continuing Education each year

After submitting an application package that includes transcripts, references, and video responses to a structured interview, qualified candidates are invited into a multi-stage interview process. During the process candidates will meet with clinical supervisors, perform a mock therapy session, and participate in a training with the MyCounselor clinical team. If advanced from the final interview with the Director of Clinical Services, candidates are offered a position on the clinical team and matriculated into the MyCounselor residency.

During residency counselors complete multiple rotations of clinical training and experience with specific populations, including individuals, couples, families, and teens. Specifically, residents are trained in the MyCounselor proprietary model of care: Neuroscience Informed Christian Counseling® (NICC) as applied in practice with various presenting issues.

The thorough training our counselors receive in a broad array of specialized rotations equips them to address counseling concerns ranging from the common to the complex.
