Get To Know Ali
Hi and Welcome! My name is Ali Hettinger and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in Columbia, Missouri and a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the state of Iowa. I am originally from just outside of Houston, Texas, but have been living in the Midwest for a good long while now. I entered into the counseling world after seeing first-hand the pain, hurt, and frustration that takes place simply from living in this world. After getting my Masters in Mental Health Counseling, I have been able to learn and practice in a variety of settings including children’s homes, college campuses, with both children and adult in private-practice setting, overseas and state-side worker care, and with international clients from varying religious backgrounds. As a Christian myself, I specialize in helping people from a Christian perspective, however, I encourage and welcome my clients to discuss their beliefs and views in whatever way they feel comfortable.
When I am not counseling, I enjoy traveling, practicing 90’s songs on the ukulele, chasing after new adventures with my family, pushing myself in running, and doing anything where I can be outside. I also love learning and get very excited about new research in terms of psychology, behavior, and social patterns. Things that I am not very good at include downhill skiing, tetherball, and geography.
Why I Can Help
I understand that the relationship you have with your counselor is one of the most important aspects of the counseling process. I believe in the beauty of counseling and have been able to witness first-hand the transformational power of finding healing in a safe space. I am passionate about empowering individuals of all ages to step into the story of freedom that is available to everyone. I offer evidence-based treatment for understanding and treating trauma, anxiety, depression, eating disorders, stress, relationship development, life transitions, and self acceptance. I do this through a variety of holistic approaches including Experiential Counseling, ACT, CBT, LifeSpan Integration, and Mindfulness-Based practices. I believe that every individual is unique and there is no one-size-fits-all approach to meeting your specific needs and goals.
I have been honored to speak at a variety of events and workshops on topics such as Experiential Therapy, Trauma, Women’s Leadership, Team Building, Trust, and Forgiveness. I have also experienced medical difficulties in my own family (having two children with Cystic Fibrosis and a daughter who had a double transplant) and have written about that in my book, Transplanted Joy. If you or someone you know is interested to know more about what that journey looked like or how God transformed our lives through grieving and giving up control, feel free to hop on over to Amazon (Transplanted Joy) or at varying local book stores and pick up a copy.
